If you run a faceless or YouTube automation channel, editing is usually your biggest recurring cost. Prices online range from a few dollars to several hundred per video, which makes it hard to know what is fair. This guide explains what drives the price of a YouTube automation video editor and how to get videos that actually hold viewers.
What you are really paying for
A faceless video is not just clips placed under a voiceover. A good edit includes:
- Visual research: finding the right footage, images and archival clips for every sentence of the script.
- Pacing: a new visual every few seconds, especially in the first 30 seconds, so viewers don’t click away.
- Motion graphics: maps, numbers, timelines and animated text that explain the story.
- Sound design: music that changes with the mood of each section, plus subtle sound effects.
- Revisions and a consistent style from video to video.
What changes the price
1. Video length
A 10-minute video needs roughly twice the visuals of a 5-minute one. Most editors price per finished minute or per video in length bands.
2. Style
Simple stock-footage edits cost the least. Documentary styles like Magnates Media or business-story channels, with heavy motion graphics and custom animations, take much longer and cost more.
3. What is included
Some editors only edit. A full YouTube automation team also handles the script, voiceover and thumbnail, which costs more per video but saves you hiring four different people.
4. Volume
Channels that order several videos a week usually get a better rate than one-off orders.
Cheap editing usually costs more
The cheapest editors often recycle the same stock clips, ignore pacing and skip sound design. The result is low retention, and YouTube stops recommending the video. Paying a little more for an editor who understands retention usually pays for itself in views.
How to choose an editor
- Ask for samples in your niche or a similar style.
- Check real client reviews, for example on Upwork or Fiverr.
- Agree on turnaround time and revisions before you start.
- Start with one test video before committing to a monthly volume.
